If he is gaining weight fine then he doesn't need the whole bottle, only make up half the amount. You can always give a little bit more if he is still hungry.

A baby's stomach is the size of their fist and for some babies 6oz will be way too much!

I'd say he's not hungry for more.... My son is 11 months old and only drinks 5-6oz, and you're little guy is only 4 months. All babies are different, as is their appetites....If you are worried that he's not drinking enough, you can wait 15-20 minutes and offer the rest or just wait until he stops drinking to burp him, some babies you just can't that bottle back in. Babies usually start to squirm or pull away if they need to burp, you can try the bottles with the liners (Avent makes really good ones) and they swallow less air and and don't need to burp as much. Not sure why the nurse would tell you he needs to drink it all if he's gaining weight properly.... as for the lip thing, I'm sorry I don't know anything about that, but sounds uncomfortable.

An added thought : My son did this when the nipple flow was too slow for him, he would get frustrated with it and just give up halfway through.

He probably just isn't hungry anymore i have 5 younger siblings and took care of the 2 most recent a lot since i was a lot older than them i'm 16 siblings: 3,2 and sometimes baby just get full but if the Nurse sais to have him drink the whole bottle then do your best but if it was earlier on i would have said switch to breast feeding it is much more natural for the babies and they don't tend to fuss as much about breast feeding try to give him half the bottle then wait a while to give him the rest don't worry yourself too much i am assuming you are probably a first time mom so there is a lot of anxiety you'll feel and worry about every little thing that is happening to him/her and thats completely normal just keep getting check ups and maybe talk to a pediatrician about it to see if there are some ways to get the baby to eat better

I agree sounds like he might just be full. If it were a case of pain then I'm sure he'd be fussy while drinking the bottle and probably afterwards due to still being hungry. If he's content with only half the bottle and gaining weight than I'm sure he's ok. Maybe from now on you can make 4 oz. bottles instead. You can always make more if he still seems hungry and it'll make less of a throw away. :) Good Luck and congrats on the new baby!

Hi -- I breast fed my 3 boys, so I don't know how much a baby "should" drink, but I think that if the baby doesn't want to drink any more, you should respect his wants. The nurse doesn't know whether your baby is hungry or not. You don't want to push food at him if he is full. Maybe he likes to snack, and eat a little food at a time. You don't want to force food at him; that will teach him to eat till he is stuffed and only lead to obesity later in life.

A baby will tell you if he is hungry or not. Trust your baby, and not some book or nurse. Also, I never attempted to make my babies eat on a schedule. They will set their own timetables. Some want to eat every 2 hours; some 3, some longer. Babies have tiny tummies and shouldn't be forced to fill up because some expert decides that they should eat a certain amount at a certain time.

One of the best things to remember is that a baby's wants are a baby's needs. You can't spoil a baby. They need all the loving and holding and hugging that you can give them. They don't need schedules or training.

Enjoy your baby.

My daughter just starting doing this too she is 4 months as well and then she will drink the rest like 30 min to 1 hour later really annoying but yes you should still try to get her to drink the whole bottle.
