It depends on what type of contraceptives.
Cytotec is often given for cervical ripening and induction of labor.
I rewrote this, because I think you mean after a medical abortion or medical completion of a miscarriage, which is another way it's used.

Combined pills (estrogen and progesterone) -- at least a week after. (this is what most birth control pills are)
Ortho Evra Patch -- same thing is true
Nuvaring -- same
Progesterone only oral contraceptives -- First week after delivery or abortion.
Depo provera -- the next day; often given at the first follow-up visit.
Paragard or Mirena IUD -- usually 6 weeks
Condoms -- as soon as you have sex
Abstinence -- not a bad idea for at least the first 3 weeks!!!

I remember a two week period of abstinance after taking Cytotec, after which there was a re-check, (to make suure it worked) then BC as usual.

cytotec is a drug used to soften the cervix for labor its inserted into the cervix to open it up for labor. so 6 weeks after you deliver
