Dead Alive is a great horror gross-out comedy directed by Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings
The Exorcist is The Exorcist. Enough said.
Halloween is one of the best original slashers.
Poltergeist is a good one.
Rosemary's Baby is astonishingly good.
Seven is an amazing movie and is pretty intense and thrilling, though its not horror so to speak.
The Shining is pretty great though a bit slow moving at first. (The Jack Nicholson one)
Tales from the Crypt Presents Demon Knight is one of the most underrated ones ever.

The Exorcist (1973) --
There will never be another bump in the night again that won't keep you up all night long. If you really want to be scared, this'll do it. I still can't watch that movie after I've seen it the first time. It messes with your head... i.e. randomly, it'l just flash this white face with sharp teeth and red eyes.
I'm getting the creeps just typing it. Really, it's more than a movie, it's a life changing experiance.
There are two kind of people in this world, those who have seen the Exorcist and those who have not.

Aww the best flicks no one makes it but I'll give it a shot =) "The People Under the Stairs" "The Feast" Great one many twists "Slither" this one has some gore but its silly "Jeepers Creepers" but only one lives "Night of the Living Dead" in the original all die but there was a remake late 80's early 90's with a brighter ending and it didn't mess-up the story "The Hills Have Eyes" this one has gore but not like slasher flick gore more the aftermath from the fight for survival "Pumpkin Head" only the 1st one "It" a TV Minny but still good "Critters" "Killer Clowns from Outer Space" It's silly but creepy These are just some thoughts some keep in mined the is some gore in these films but if you're looking for a scary movie it's hard to get around.

me and my friends watched a movie called "they" at a halloween party and everyone was scared of that. i like the ring movies. the second one isn't so scary but it's still good. and that movie the hills have eyes was pretty scary but of course i watched the unrated version.

The Blair Witch Project scared the CRAP out of me. Be sure to get the "extended documentary" that you should play FIRST.
Oldie but a goodie: Night of the Living Dead (the ORIGINAL black and white of course.)
Kind of Sci-Fi, but the Alien movies are pretty shocking.

More grusome though, but still makes you want to hide behind your hands in fear of what may happen next.
I haven't really seen an extremely scary one in ages.
Dark Water scared me, but that's because I was by myself at night!
THE GRUDGE 2!! I was at the drive-in and that scared the crap out of me. Not sure how bad it would be at home though.
The Exorcist. Omg... I had issues with stairs after watching that.

for me those scary movies now r NOT scary at all.but if u do want some scary movie,try watch this:The ring(korea one).save ur time if u want to watch 'dark water'.it is not scary but boring.
