My husband bought this about 20 years ago when he was in Japan. He can't remember what it means. Could someone tell me what kind of markings these are or the meaning of this medallion. We know that it isn't Japanese, but what is it?

i study ancient scripts such as sumerian, etruscan, egyptian, minoan, etc and i cannot identify what script it is. it reminds me of some of the wizard scripts used in the medieval period. a few of the signs are similar to hieroglyphic luwian, but i sersiously doubt that is the case. it could be an asian script like malay but i am not certain or simply a made-up script to entice someone to buy it.

It reminds of some magical symbols or something. I see two possibilities:
1. It's a medaillon made for Goths and the like the look neat on them. It could be modern and someone just made up some symbols that look nice.
2. It really is a medaillon with a meaning. In this case I suggest you ask some people who know about alchemy, secret societies, magick and the stuff. Maybe they will be able to tell you what it is supposed to represent. Maybe repost the question in another category?

Many of the characters resemble Phonecian and early Greek writing. You're right that it's definetly not modern Japanese. I would strongly doubt that it is of Latin American origin. Latin American writing systems don't resemble these characters at all. I might guess that may be a copy of some early Greek (geographic area) calendar, or even just done in a way to mimic that style. It somewhat resembles the Phaistos disc, but the pictograms are not the same and the circular pattern is different. It might also be some sort of Hellenized Egyptian. That's my two cents.

i think of that's an relaxing concept, yet i may be continuously changing my colorings, because of the fact a) i'm a Gemini and continuously changing my temper and b) i think like i'm growing to be and evolving as a man or woman. So if i replace into to positioned on a badge of identity i might have a beige (signifying the sparkling canvas, extremely dirtied!) with stable undertones of pinl (for my sexuality and empathy) sounds like a completely poisonous coloration combination, yet I on no account replace into (going against the gay stereotype) very sturdy at recognizing the colorings the 'circulate'!

It's an interesting medallion. It appears to be more Central or South American in origin, I'm also wondering if it might be Polynesian, but I don't know for certain.
