I have an auto liquid softener dispenser and it has left a funky film around the lint trap of the washer. I want to clean it and the only way I have tried (with an old toothbrush and bleach) was a little too time consuming. Any hints would help. Thanks in advance!

Once weekly I was 2 loads that leave the washer greasy and dirty. I use a foaming spray cleaner and spray the entire interior, let set for a few minutes than wipe the area, rubbing were bad. I spray the foaming cleaner in the fabric softener dispenser as well. Pour vinegar in the dispensers, I have a bleach dispenser as well. Fill the washer up with water, do not add soap, run it through a rinse cycle. It is good also to run an empty rinse cycle with vinegar after you do a load that has bleach, that way you will not get remaining bleach spots on the next load of colored clothes that you run through

Normally the soap tray has a plastic tab, usually in the middle, either on top or sometimes at the bottom. When you press this tab, the tray can be pulled completely out and easily cleaned in a sink with an old tooth brush. All soap trays are designed to be easily removed for cleaning. About the rubber rim you have to be careful what to use because it can be damaged with solvents or acidic detergents. I suggest that you clean it with a mild dish washing liquid and rinse it properly. In the future leave the machine door ajar so that it can dry between washes. If you can leave it open, it is even more better.

I have thirty years exp in this field. Most dispensers are removable and can be soaked in hot water & viniger.

Clean your washing machine... that's kind of ironic...

Like, "I'd kill for a Nobel peace prize".

Here's your 4 step process:

STEP 1: Combat rust with 2 c. lime or lemon juice in a cycle of the hottest water setting.

STEP 2: Remove dye stains with 2 c. bleach run through two cycles on the hottest and highest settings.

STEP 3: Visit a hardware or appliance store for rust removal products such as Iron-Out. Know which brand of washer you have, and follow the product's instructions.

STEP 4: Be aware that rusty spots on the washing machine barrel can indicate damage to that part. The only solution in that case is to replace the washing machine barrel (though it may be more cost-effective to replace the entire washer).

BE VERY CAREFUL HERE--- PLEASE READ THIS!!!:
Don't mix chemicals. Combinations can be dangerous. Bleach, for instance, when mixed with rust inhibitor, releases poisonous gases.
