you buy the fabric, the size you want plus 3 inches on each side, then you cut into the fabric every 1/2 inch to a distance of three inches you can leave it straight or tie every pair into a knot. if you make the blanket of two layers so its two different colors, you can tie each pair one from each layer so that the fringe is one print and one plain in each knot. you dont need any pattern, there is nothing to it.

I didn't have a pattern, I just kind of winged it. I just figured out how big I wanted the blanket and then took into account for the strips you cut and bought my fabric that size. The strips are usually cut every 1 1/2 inches and they are cut about 6 inches deep. When you go to cutting the strips it can be very tedious. I found a plastic stencil board that had slits in it every 1/2 inch that you could run a rotary cutter down to cut a straight line. When I found it I thought the price was pretty steep but went ahead and purchased it. It was well worth the money for the simplicity it added to this project. I would highly recommend trying to find one of these boards if you are going to making more than 1 or 2 of these blankets. They are pretty simple but very time consuming.

Walmart used to have the directions in their fabric department. It is very easy. You probably wouldn't need a pattern. Just get two pieces of fleece of the size you want and place them wrong sides together. Cut 2 1/2 inch squares at the four corners. Then go around the outside cutting the fringe about 2 1/2 inches deep. Then go around the outside and double knot the tassles. Good luck. It's fun.

An addition to starrwood's answer. Make the blanket two thicknesses. Just follow her instructions up until the tieing point....lay pieces on top each other, then tie ends from each thickness together..... Makes a really warm blanket, especially for a little baby.
