You are obviously not 1st generation. My wife's family has 5 Boys all of them left school by 5th grade. All of them were in the US by 16 the youngest was 13. The Father stayed 6 months to set them up and then went back home to run the farm. They did pretty well only the youngest joined a gang. The odds are against them and the US has nothing in place to help.

There is an ever-increasing problem with gang activity among SOME Mexican youth, but there's also gang violence associated with some African-African and white youths as well. They all have the same root cause: these young people often lack the proper parental guidance in the home or positive role models in life, and are very susceptible to peer pressure. They join gangs often thinking that, because of poverty, they can't do anything better with their lives. Many people that join gangs do so at least in some part because they want to belong to something, to have a "family" of sorts as well. There is no quick fix for this. I would say that a step in the right direction would be to increase the number of special programs in urban and lower-class areas dedicated to giving these kids positive adult role models and opportunities to learn to participate in more positive activities . (think Boys and Girls Club here) Many urban and lower class youth are neglected by our gov't to a degree, which is a shame because they could really use the funding for such programs. These youth need help in feeling empowered about themselves and their lives so they won't feel that they have to resort to gang violence.

There are many causes, poverty, lack of roll models,Lack of enough or effective parenting skills, lack of self discipline.Peer pressure, ignorance. One thing not tried is to teach them early
to teach right from wrong, teach parents to look for signs that are going wrong.Bring roll models to school.Put trouble makers in there own school like a boot camp to break there attatude and stear them in the right direction.Make sure that gang culture is eliminated. One thing I don't see is enough Latino's telling these gangs to stop doing this.No matter what US can do All cuture with gangs and crime there doesn't seem enough responsibility from each culture.

My loved ones is from the West Indies, and so they come from a small island referred to as Haiti, which may be a facet of the Dominican Republic. Haitians are predominately of African descent. But technically they're additionally a mixture of different ethnicity's. Technically, if any person was once to label me by way of race/ethnicity, I could pick to be referred to as a Haitian, than African. I'd desire to be referred to as a Haitian-American. My father and mother migrated from Haiti, they weren't born right here.

Lack of positive adult role models. Most of their parents are out working two, sometimes even three jobs just to put food on the table. This makes it hard for them to pay attention to what their kids are really doing. Also, when you grow up in "the hood," and you see somebody roll by in a brand new(whatever),you want to be able to get one also. The lure of easy money and power is very attractive and also much more realistic than going to college, working, obtaining things the hard way.A gang provides family enviorment for these kids and also supports them no matter what.I'm not saying it's right,I'm just telling you what I've seen. Most of these kids are so smart,if they were to direct that intelligence in the right direction, they'd be millionaires, believe me.
