So in the commercial for it, the guy says "I'm John Rider, and I need a ride" or something very similiar to that.

Isn't it a bit unoriginal to do a movie about someone named John RIDER to need a RIDE? I mean, as far as last names go, there could have been a bit more creativity, lol. Right?

Its a remake. How much creativity does it take to do a remake? Okay so they put the boy between the trucks instead of the girl(like in the original)but who really cares. The original was great. Maybe they should just release some of these old movies that had great plots.

Its a remake try the original its better. Maybe thats why the name is so un-original. Since the movie is a remake. I guess the writers weren't all that creative 20 years ago =)

The original "The Hitcher" movie starred C. Thomas Howell and Rutger Hauer. Rutger was a far better badass.

Ah, but the movie was awesome! I watched sickingly over and over when I was a teenager. I was intrigued by the Hitcher's abilities.
Funny I never picked up on his name. Maybe the writers were trying to be funny?
