The Russians became completely disenfranchised with their government, which led to the acceptance of revolution (led by Lenin, of course).

Russia also faced possibly the worst military hardships of any nation during WWI. In fact, a high percentage of Russian grunts actually took to the front lines of major battles armed only with clubs (funny how diverse the armaments of WWI were, from horses to tanks to clubs to planes). Russia did mount some terrific successes on the Eastern front, but in whole they were disheartened by the fact that they could not put down the German war machine, even when a good part of the Germans were occupied on the Western Front.

As war pressures increased, so did pressure from the Duma, a collective Russian political entity with aspirations of at least an oligarchy in Russia. They pressured Tsar Nicholas to abdicate, along with death threats from the general public. Breadlines in Russia became full-fledged revolution, and the revolutionaries wanted to concentrate on domestics, not international war.
