In a normal event yes they absolutely should be payed the same. But I assume this question is asked around this time of year because it's always an issue when the men make more than the women in the grand slam events when the men play best of 5 sets whereas the women play best of 3 sets. The average of the payout should be the same but only the average not the total payout. Example: for every 3 dollars the women make the men should be making 5.

They do not play 3 not 5 sets like men. Regardless of gender, should you pay let's say a cashier that works for 3 hours the same amount of money as you would pay a cashier that works 5 hours. It's not like the professional women tennis players are in poverty because they don't always get as much money as men.

I'm all for treating men and women equal, but until the women and men both play the same match (either both play best of 5 or both play best of 3 sets) the men deserve more.

IMHO, when both men and woman have to play "best of three", I definitely think women should get the same amount of money men do!
However, if, as in Grand Slams, the men are required to play "best of five", and the women "best of three", then I think it's fair men should get better paid than the women. (mind you, NOT huge amounts of money more, just a little bit)

heck yes they do! women deserve to be treated the same as men! i know that the argument is that the men tourneys make more $$ than womens, but the women still do as good as a job as men!
