i have about 15 rosy red minnows that i just bought the other day, but i can't tell if they're male or female. any helpful hints? they range from 1.5" - 2".

i need helpfull hints on breeding them tooo plz

You can't tell at that size. Rosy reds are just a color variation of fat head minnows (Pimephales promelas). In breeding season, the males will get pimple-like growths (tubercules) on their heads. I've never bred them, but we have them wild where I'm from. They're in ponds with lots of vegetation. You might start with that as a tank set-up. I know they need a "cave" (sideways clay flower pot will do) like some cichlids as a place to lay their eggs.

Females are larger, duller in color (look really close...you CAN tell) and they will be wider as well. The males are brighter, have a more upright dorsal fin and will generally be shorter in the body.

but i can help on breeding finds some books and maybe it will help you..
