My dad was pissing me off, and I told her to "f..k off" and he made me write a two page essay on why it's unclassy to swear! What would you have done if your 15 y/o told you that? Hypothetically, what would have YOUR parents done? Isn't an essay harsh for me just telling my dad (not so politely) to mind his own damn business?

I'm Russian-American, if that really matters... to the "Sweet Angel" chick with the greasy-haired avatar, it's called a typo. :)

My mother would just get upset and make me feel guilty until I apologized. never underestimate the power of guilt.

If I were the parent, I would first have to wonder if I had deserved such treatment. After all, some parents really do need to be told to **** off.

Anyway, it is just a word. It's the sentiment that counts. I don't think there is anything wrong with a child speaking up if he/she feels that a parent is crossing the line. The goal should be mutual respect. Unfortunately, most parents figure that they should just be respected even if they act like total assholes.

First off I would have never done such a thing because I was raised with respect and would never talk to my parents using such vulgar language. But if for some reason I would have temporarily lost my mind and said something like that to my parents I would have had a double dose of fist down my throat and foot in my behind. Your lucky an essay is all you had to do.

I honostly don't know since i've never done that with my mom. I'd be too scared to, everyone in my family is scared of my mom she never backs down on her threats.

As for my dad, unfortunatly I have said it to him before. I don't respect him at all, he doesn't respect me and is an alcoholic. It's a problem and I have a lot of anger issues, it just gets passed off now. But if I was younger when my parents were more in control they would have washed my mouth out with soap, put me in my room to think about it(this was before tv's were in rooms, etc.), or get a slap on the butt.

I don't think it's harsh at all, I think you actually got off pretty light. They're just trying to teach you respect, and you'll learn maybe next time that there's other ways to tell them to leave/or mind there business but more kindly.

If I would have said that to my parents, I would have been slapped so hard I would have turned cross-eyed, plus groundings of every kind for a couple of months. You are getting off easy.

I know you don't want to hear this, but you shouldn't say that to your parents. They love you and work hard to keep the roof over your head and the clothes on your back and food on the table.

Imagine if YOUR daughter said that to you. I know that you'd be a bit upset, too, after all that you have done and will do for her.

well, i agree with him giving you a punshment... im 16, if i said that to ANYONE... i would just straight out get my as$ busted.... but, i guess the essay is a good thing too. he is doing it in an educational way, and at the same time, what kid really wants to write an essay?.... so would you say this to him again?.... if not, he wasnt too harsh, since the punishment was effective.

your dad is minding his own business.... you are 15, and he is legally responsible for you. wait until you are 18 and say that.... but nice way of thanking dad for taking care of you your whole life....

As a mother, if my daughter did that to me, I'd have made her eat a bar of soap and probably smacked her in the mouth if she were your age. It doesn't matter what the reason is, you should have some respect for your elders. I'd say an essay is a light punishment. You must remember that, even though they get on your nerves, your parents are looking out for your safety and best interests. You may not see it now, but you will when you are older. I thought I knew it all at your age and that my parents were morons, too. However, it turned out that I knew nothing and they were right.

first off i have enough respect for my mother not to swear at her to her or in front of her. I'm only 16 and i know better and to be honest if i did tell her to f**k off she would probably smack the hell out of me. I think writing an essay is getting off way too easy. This is just because i like to right so i could pull something out of my a** and be done with it.

Been there done that to my parents and quite frankly I would have rathered the essay! I got a hard slap in the face and was grounded for like 3 weeks! Your mom and dad brought you into this world, respect them and they will respect you and your "business"!!

Really? Only a 2 page essay? If I told that to my dad, he would have taken off his belt and beat the hell out of me.
