I have seen in many movies(Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) this thick thread that is used to stitch flesh back together. I have asked everyone that I know what it is called, but they don't know what I am talking about. It is thick & black usually used with a curved needle & whenever I think about it I think of the stitches that doctors used to give their paitents with sever wounds.

It was called ''catgut'' suturing. It was made out of some natural fibers and was thick.
New sutures are made of synthetic materials and still come on a curved needle. They have less chance of causing an allergic reaction for patients. Catgut isn't used anymore. Silk is still used in some cases.
