I only repaired the front brakes so I don't know the condition on the rear. The car is a 99 Dodge Caravan. The driver's side was worn to metal and I had to replace the rotor but the passenger side was in pretty good shape.

Sounds like a siezed up caliper.

As others have said, replace them both, because if one went the other is likely to follow. We typically tell customers to replace these in pairs because labor will not only be slightly less, but it will prevent a headache later on.

You were feeling a pull to the right, correct?

Sticking caliper, I've had that problem on two different cars. Basically, when you push on the brake pedal, the brake pads never touch the rotor because the calipers are stuck. Driving them metal on metal for a few days (procrastinating getting them changed), getting excessively hot will do it quick.

Not suggesting you have done that, but just pointing that out.

You'll want to get that fixed quick. It makes all the other pads work harder to stop the vehicle and you have essentially lost 25% (1 of 4 wheels) of your braking power. You might want that during rush hour traffic.

They'll need to change the caliper and bleed the brakes. Look up the part to get an average price at http://www.autozone.com . It's about 1-2 hours repair (at the avg rate of 70.00 per hour for mechanic). My caliper was about 80.00 if memory serves me correct.

Stuck caliper most times, but it can also be due to rotor damage, or bad wheel bearings.
What usually happens is one side of the caliper, or the guide pins it rides in and out on get stuck or dirty and jammed up so only one side of the brakes works effectively.

one of your brake calipers are bad, I would just replace both of them, either the drivers side is sticking and causing the brake to wear premature or the passenger side is sticking and not putting much pressure on the brake pad, if you do your own brake work you probably can tell which one is bad when you go to push the piston back in and it won't move.
