there us no typo! i checked it like 20 times. just write it out how i typed it. It would look like x+2 over 5 - x-2 over 7 = 4...Sorry if you cant understand it..but thanks for trying!!

The people above me answered the question as written and they are correct. This is what happens when you don't use parentheses to eliminate ambiguity.

I suspect you meant:

Solve (x + 2)/5 - (x - 2)/7 = 4

If this is the case, first clear the denominators by multiplying both sides of the equation by the least common multiple, namely 35.

7(x + 2) - 5(x - 2) = 4*35
7x + 14 - 5x + 10 = 140
2x = 116
x = 58

Next time, please use parentheses.

move the - (x-2)/7 to the other side so that u get
(x+2)/5=(x-2)/7 +4 .....note how the sign changed when u slid it to the other side.
on the right side u must combine the two terms. the first term denominator is 7 and the 4's denominator is one. common denominator is 7. so u times 4 by 7 and 28/7 now u have common denom. and can combine numerators. ...
x+2)/5=(x-2)+28/7 simplify. .....(x+2)/5=(x+26)/7 now cross multiply as u have a proportion...u get 7x+14=5x+130. i am guessing u can solve that. psst. the answer is 58

x + 2/5 - x - 2/7 = 4
2/5 - 2/7 = 4
14/35 - 10/35 = 4
4/35 can't equal 4, so this must be a typo

Oh man ! What kind of math is that ???
It 's toooooo easyyyyyyy !
In Viet Nam,I did learn it when I am in 2nd grade !!!
x + 2/5 - x - 2/7 = 4
(x - x) + (2/5 - 2/7 -4 ) = 0
0x + (-136/35) = 0
-136/35 = 0 (illogical)
There's no x which is suitable !!!
T= (I can't write this in PC,u know what I mean ?)

gather like terms: x-x+(2/5)-(2/7)=4
simplify: (2/5)-(2/7)=4
thats nowhere close, so the equation is false....

if you meant: (x+2)/5 - (x-2)/7=4
multiply through by 35: 7(x+2) - 5(x-2)=140
distribute: 7x+14-5x+10=140
simplify: 2x+24=140
subtract 24: 2x=116
divide by 2: x=58

You've made an error in your transcription of the problem. 2/5-2/7 does not equal 4.

First combine like terms (as in x)

x+2/5 - x - 2/7= 4

oh...x would cancel out... umm...yeah that equation has like no solution or something because 4/25 doesnt = 4...so I dont know about that one thats a weird problem.
