Most of them are brought up in an environment like a green house, well insulated and in so much abundance. Whatever they wanted, their parents most probably gave everything to them, including "freedom" to do whatever they want. How can a brain develop if one does not need to use it?

I think you're meeting the wrong Generation Y-ers.

Stereotypes and insults discourage intellectual discussion, too.

I think that it started with being called "Generation Y". Then it goes on to the "older" people not wanting to listen to what they have to say. Sure, we hear it but I'm not sure that we all listen to them. Their problems are different than ours are but they're important to the younger generation and we owe it to them to listen when they speak. We don't necessarily have to agree with them, of course. Then I think that we just assume that they don't have anything important to contribute and blow them off. In short, I think it's our other generations that discourage Gen-Y from intellectual conversations.

That's easy political correctness does not encourage discussion. let's talk if homosexuality is wrong or right NOT end of discussion, what defines a real man? NOT end of discussion. Generation Y is just brainwashed into supporting PC, it takes guts to stand against the tide in that school setting.

I dont really get this Y generation you are talking about but if you are talking about today youngsters its all in the education, they have all this other things you guys (Im 15) had before such as internet, iPods and things that they get carried on by as in being cool is what is all about in life. Now all intellectual talk seems 'lame'...which is incredibly lame and even more funny that when they grow up and find themselves as high school dropouts

It doesn't discourage it... unfortunately there aren't any intellectuals in Gen. Y only those that think they are.

Hint, it is NOT their generation. Most often it is their politics!

Is that true?

If it is, have they bought the liberal political correctness lies?
