Here is the next problem:

Kelsey runs 100 meters in 30 sec, Julian runs 200 meters in 27 sec, Melinda runs 400 meters in 50 sec. Who runs the greatest average speed?

12 answers

1) 325/500*100 = 65% (so the answer is b)

2)
Kelsey 100/30 = 3.3 m/s

Julian 200/27 = 7.4 m/s

Melinda 400/50 = 8 m/s

so Melinda runs the greatest average speed

Here's a great formula for percents: X/100=IS/OF. The X is the percent, and can change. Is and of are as follows: 325 students IS how many voted for you out OF 500. 100 is just basically, 100% is the max (not always, but you still use it.) The 100 never changes. So then, you cross-multiply: x*500=500x and 325*100 is 32500. Then you have 32500=500x. Solve for x (divide both sides by 500): 500x/500=x and 325000/x=65. So x (the percent) equals 65. B is the correct answer.

For the next one, you have to find out how fast each person runs per second. To do this, divide each distance by the time it takes to run it. For Kelsey: 3.3 repeating. For Julian: 7.407 repeating. For Melinda: 8. Melinda is the fastest runner. She runs 8 meters per second.

1. Divide 325/500. You get b, 65%

2. figure 100/30, 200/27, 400/50. Melinda.

Percentage you get = number you get / total number * 100
= 325 / 500 * 100
= 65%.

Average speed = total distance / total time
Kelsey: 100 / 30 = 3 1/3 m/s
Julian: 200 / 27 = 7 11/27 m/s
Melinda: 400 / 50 = 8 m/s
So Melinda has the greatest average speed.

1. 325 people vote for you out of 500.
set this up as a fraction

325/500 = x/100 cross multiply to get
500x = 32500
x= 65

65% voted for you

2. meters/ seconds

Kelsey: 100/30 Julian: 200/27 melinda:400/ 50

the easiest way to solve this is to find each's average speed per second. So

100/30= Kelsey runs 3.333 m per sec
200/27= Julian runs 7. 407407 m per sec
400/50= Melinda runs 8 m per sec

So Melinda has the greatest average speed.

Hope this helped u out!

It would be 65% because, you have to divide 325 into 500 and you would get 0.65 which if you move the decimal three places back you will get 65%

The second one is Melinda because, Melinda runs 400 meters that is greater than the others and also she did it in 50 seconds.
to get the answer divide 400 into 50 = 8 the other ones if you dived them they are low so then Melinda has the highest speed.
Hope that I help...

For the first problem (the treasurer election), think of 500 students as all the students votes and 325 as your piece of their votes. Like a piece of their pie. Like a fraction of a whole. If you do this on a calculator, 325/500 is .65. That is the percentage of votes that you got. The answer is b.

325/500 Divide and you will get .65 which is 65% or b

K = 100 m / 30 s = 3.33 meters per second
J = 200 m / 27 s = 7.407 meters per second
M = 400 m /50 s= 8 meters per second

Melinda is the fastest with 8 meters per second.
