No that is just when the Mayan calender ends. It was based on a 2600 year cycle not on the end of the world. You can find more about this online. Just google Mayan.

I don't think it's possible for the Earth to be destroyed by a meteor. Earth is too big and meteors are too small. However, life on Earth could be wiped out by a meteor at any time. I guess we'll have to wait 2012 to find out.

2012 is just date of our system, there are hundreds of other date systems, like the chinese, hebrew, sanskryte systems.
Earth was here long before humanity came. On a timescale, humanity and current animals exist for abour 2 secs compared to 1 year (for the earth).

Some other guys also think , that some meteorites, brought alien bacteria to earth billions of years ago , and then life evolved on earth...

Let's analyze that. The mayan calander ended on the exact date of December 21st 2012. Coincidently, scientists have predicted that there's going to be a massive polar shift of Earth on December 21st 2012. They decoded the Bible, and it says that the apacalypse is on December 21st 2012.
The mayans believed that a giant comet (quetzicotl) will shower onto Earth and a era will end and a new era will start. The Bible said that fires will rain from the heavens and many will be in great pain.
Jesus said that the End of Days will start when they rebuild Solomon's Temple....guess who's rebuilding Solomon's Temple right now? The Freemasons, a cult.

yeh right... I am obsessed with astronomy and they can predict years in advances if a meteor will hit earth... in 2027 an asteroid is going to come so close to the earth but wont hit.. 6 years after that its going to come back and possibly might hit earth

And on December 21st? No. no one knows when the end will come. The 2012 version is just another myth.

nope. things are going to be much worse than that... it's going to be more like a rebirth than an explosion... the earth itself will remain intact, but the survival of anything living on the surface is not going to be a possibility. It's not going to happen by 2012 either. I'll make the guestimation that it could happen around 2070... but that all depends on weather or not we as people radically change our lifestyles on a global level...

that's just my theory

No, the use of 2012 is because the Mayan calendar ends then.
