Do you have to be 17 1/2 to get your drivers license in california?

You can receive a restricted license at 16 in California.

This means no driving with minors in the car and no driving after 10pm, unless its for a work or school related event, with verification.

Once you turn 18 I believe restrictions are lifted, however, if you are caught with even a trace of alcohol while driving between then and 21 you will lose your license for a year.

just asked my mom. she said 18 lol...u can get a permit at 16 though
