I am a very confident basketball player. That is, until I am in a game and the ball gets to my hands. I just want to pass it off right away. I guess I am just lacking the self-confidence. It's weird tho, cuz b4 I go into the game, I'm always telling myself... ok, this time, im going to make a move to the basket. but when i get in the game, it's like i forget what i told myself. nothing is working to help me remember to, and not be scared to shoot the ball. What should I do to increase my confidence with the ball in my hands? Cuz, b4 i go into the game, i'm always like, okay, this time, i wont be scared to shoot the ball. idk if it's the audience, or just the "heat of the moment" or what... an advice would be great. thanks.

Have confidence in yourself...and take whats available in the game, don't force it....Jordan always emphasized that he was great because he wasn't afraid to fail...even if he missed a jumpshot he knew at least he gave it a shot...

Don't focus on yourself so much as you do the flow of the game. If you first thought is to pass then there is nothing wrong with that. Chances are when you have a good shot to take you will no choice but to take it. Otherwise a lot of time players end up forcing it a bit. Like Mike Jordan used to do as he got wiser that is , , let the game come to him the first few quarters and then once he was in the flow of the game picking and choosing his spots it was easier for him to assert him self. and also if you find yourself being over anxious with the ball, then if at all possible, catch the ball and just hold it purposefully. What we can sometimes do is put pressure on ourselves to do something dramatic with the ball each time we touch it. Don't worry about that just catch it and hold it for a second, and think OKAY I HAVE THE BALL, and just enjoy holding it for a sec. It sounds silly but it works.

Try more pick up ball that will allow you to work your anxiety out. Also get yourself a routine that lets you calm yourself down (chew gum, repeat something soothing over & over again, picture something happy in your head), also put more effort into your defensive game and rebounding, so that by the time you get to the other end you are focused.

What I do is shoot a heck of a lot at the beggining of a game and make a couple. Youll continue to look and shoot for the rest of the game.
