If you mean Empathy or Empathetic - This is to understand someone elses feelings, Situation, Emotions. It is not to sympathise but to realise what they are going through, without offering compassion. It is usually used when in a professional environment, therefore not getting attached to the person you are dealing with.

Sympathy means you feel for someone else's pain, whereas empathy is feeling the actual pain.
You broke your arm? Never happened to me, but I can sympathize with you. You had a cyst removed? Oh, so did I, I know exactly how you feel. *That* is empathy.
