You haven't specified the nature of the "cure." If the pill made a person bi-sexual instead of strictly gay, I would think both gays and straights might take it, as they would have nothing to lose and a lot to gain. But a pill that takes you into the realm of the unknown (especially if you might still look and act like a sissy) is not going to be a big winner.

I suppose genderqueer, along with Two-Spirit and transgender counts right?

To call no longer being queer a cure is suggesting that it's something a problem to be cured in the first place. Should that come along, other such "cures" would come along as well, such as Asperger syndrome (which I have), being godless, possibly being dark skin (also me), and other stuff. Becoming "normal" would no longer be me, but some poor clone instead. I would reject such a "cure".

Being different isn't the problem, it's those who want everyone to be the same and treat different as bad. Actually, such "cures" have been attempted before, but not quite in pill form, but it's only a matter of time before that comes along, which likely may not work.

A cure? That's like trying to cure your eye color. It's not something that needs curing.

But, just for the sake of argument, let's say there's a pill that could make me perfectly satisfied with being a hetero. I would not go near the thing for fear of accidentally ingesting it!

I love being queer. I pity anyone who's not a part of a minority or marginalized group in any way (i.e. a white, Christian, masculine, cisgendered, straight, well-off man). Being in some way a minority makes you infinitely more capable of identifying with other minorities. Not being a member of a minority makes you more likely to find minorities whiny.

And, it's just more fun being queer. Society already doesn't like who I love and who I have sex with, and that makes me all the more willing to tell society to go shove it (and I think that's a good thing).

Well seeing how there is no illness in need of a cure I would have to say. . .Nope. . .
While it may not be the easiest row to hoe it is still one of the most rewarding.
Our people are so clever, loving, loyal, entertaining, talented (in all forms of the arts), interesting and quirky and we contribute to the world in so many other ways that I wouldn't dream of changing my orientation for all the tea in China.
I'm proud to be a gay and even feel fortunate.
While it's one of the personal attributes that lets me see life from what is perhaps a less than advantaged position (among those whom would oppress those of us who are different form themselves) its' real result is that I am more able to show humanity, tolerance, grace and understanding to those different from me having suffered the lack of it myself.
It's the old walk a mile in my moccasin scenario in action.
Nothing inspires empathy more than similarity of experience.
I guess the real question should be . . .
"If there were a cure for being stupid, hateful and utterly useless, would you take it?" "Or should I be allowed to force you to take it?"
Hmmmmm
Now that's one to ponder. . .

Well, first of all there can't be a cure for being gay because being gay is not an illness. But to answer your question, no I would not. I am perfectly happy being bisexual and am in love with a beautiful girl.

Very kind of you to ask, but No I would not. I'm a 44 year old woman, with a 26 year old Lesbian marriage to another 44 year old woman...why would I want to give up the woman and the life that I love? I loathe the Trouser Snake and have the tendancy to hit them with hammers if they get within an intimate distance. This pill would not make me like them any better and it would not make me 18 again. I shall happily keep my life and my Best Beloved the way she is.
You may keep your pill, my Dear. Thank you anyways.

good grief...if I had a dollar for every time I've seen this insulting question posted!
you can't cure something that is not a disease! and, as I am happy with who I am, happy with my partner, and my family, friends and coworkers accept me and love me for who I am, why the hell would I want to?
if there was a cure for ignorance, would you take that? that's just as insulting as your question.
sorry...this kind of question has become quite tiresome!

of coarse not. Pills help people to deal with sickness or disease. Being gay is neither. Why take medacine for something you're proud of and enjoy being?
