Depends how you mean restore.

If rolling back to a prior restore point you will only lose anything installed since that date.

If completely reinstalling operating system then you will lose everything you don't have backed up

When you say restore? do you mean re-image or use the restore point feature in windows XP if you re-image then yes you lose it. If you are using windows xp and choose to restore to an earlier point via the restore point function you lose only changes to your PC that have been completed since that date not including data files.

It all depends on where your data is stored..if it is stored on "C" where you plan to restore your PC to then YES you will lose your data....I strongly recommend you copy your data off the restoring drive and you will be fine...

This is why i like to tell people to have their personal data stored on a different partition (e.g. a different drive or section of the drive) so that when you need to restore then your data will always be safe

If you are using Windows XP and you are referring to Windows system restore feature, you won't loose any data! It will restore only system files, registry entry and so on but not all other files.

If you are trying restore your PC using your backup then you might loose data!

no, windows restore has two options usually. usually u can restore the operating system only, or just erase everything and put the operating system back on the computer. In the first case, everything in your documents folders is kept. But just to be safe, you might want to back up everything. You never know what some computers will end up doing to you.

Yes you could. What you want to do is save to disc any file you don't want to lose, Because when you restore your computer it will only have the files that were originally on it when you brought it home and you will have to renstall all of the programs that you lost.

Everything that is not backed up on a disk or flash drive will be lost. A basic flash drive can be bought for under $20.00 at Wal-mart but can run up to about $50.00. They are well worth having.
