This year, my New Year's resolution was to stop biting my nails for good. I've tried lotions, nail polish, etc. I find myself biting when I'm bored, and once I get started, it's hard to stop. Any ideas how I can quit?

I'm sure you have already tried that clear, gross tasting nail polish. If you haven't, try it!

Wear gloves while you are at home! It will keep you from biting your nails while watching TV, going on the computer, reading, and whatever else you do. Keep them on as long as you are at home, that should help.

Getting a really great manicure may help you not want to bite your nails also because you won't want to mess up your pretty nails.

If you still feel like biting your nails, try chewing on gum, licorice, carrots, licking a lollipop, or having a mint. You might just need something in your mouth to keep you from biting your nails.

Good luck! ♥

Try this and WATCH IT WORK right before your eyes (only, it takes time): just stop biting one particular nail, the others are still fair game. After a week or so, pick another nail, and don't bite those two. After a little while, pick a third nail, don't bite it or the two first ones. Keep doing this until you're down to the last nail that you've been biting on (go for a pinky). By that time you'll be in such a different space, you can surprise yourself and quit that one. This is what my friend did for herself.
Good luck.

I have that habit and have for so many years, I don't know why but its so addicting.
Use a gross-tasting polish or scent on your nails to prevent you from wanting to, there's one suggestion.
Or, use gloves, which may help, and the only other thing I can think of is put a rubber band around your wrist and snap it everytime you find yourself nail-biting.

Good luck!

Whenever you want to stop just put garlic on your nails. You get a piece of garlic and just pick at it with your nails. This leaves your nails smelly and when you start biting them you taste the garlic. Before you know it, you wont want to chew on them. It always works for me!

Paint your nails, and if you get bored, peel off the polish instead of biting your nails.

Have you tried taking extra calcium? Because it helped me and I thought I was hopeless! I also take C, D, E, Zinc and lecithin, and each has had an affect on how I feel, meaning I have more energy, a better mood, more sex drive and a general overall feeling of health that I never had before (my boyfriend has been taking antibiotics from his doctor and he's still sick, and I'm not). Try it out. What could it hurt?

how about this...
if you are eating your nails (swallowing them) they sit in your stomach for a REALLY long time. eventually they could rip a tear in the wall of your stomach and cause severe medical problems. would you really want to admitted to a hospital because you bite your nails???
hope that helps you stop biting.

if you can swing it, go get a set of acrylic nails. they're about $20 and they feel awful and taste awful in your mouth. i did it for about 3 months and don't bite mine anymore. its like putting a pencil in your mouth. i warn you, the upkeep is expensive, but i learned how to do the fills myself and saved some cash.

i had the exact same problem. i got a very nice manicure, which obviously tasted bad and i would not ruin (that's a waste). it worked. i kept doing my nails until i got off the habit, which was surprisingly quick.
