If its cotton, bleach is always an alternative...check fabric care instructions....Oxy clean has always come through for me on white fabrics. The only problem is if there is a little color, like if it is cream colored, then you would want to soak the entire garment. If you spot treat it you may end up with a light area if it isn't a true white. You can also make a big batch of tea and dye the whole thing. I'm not joking or being sarcastic...if you are concerned about bleach or cleaning agents ruining the sweater (you didn't mention type of fabric), dye is always an alternative for covering stains. Good Luck.

If it's a cotton sweater try a 1-3 bleach/water solution, dab it on with a q-tip or paper towel, then launder right away.

Unfortunately, tea stains are pretty permanent. If you can't get it out you could consider dying the sweater.

white sweater, a toughie to be sure.
try liquid dishwashing detergent. cascade is by far the best. even a professional dry cleaner will have trouble with this problem.
dont give up and always try on just a small spot, perhaps with an old toothbrush, but gently!
