War on poverty has been going on since FDR ... so it is already 60+ years in the hole. Take into account the money spent and the relative cost of inflation over the years ... hmmmm ... right now war on terror is looking pretty good.

Poverty has lasted longer.

However, at this time the war on Iraq is costing more, because Bush is throwing money out left and right.

But, in the long run we already have 3rd and 4th generation families that have been surviving on welfare. This means tax dollars lots and lots of tax dollars. And without jobs being filled it means less money in Americas society. So in the long run the War on poverty will cost more, unless we figure something out.

The big difference, I hate to say it is that the war in Iraq is making America money. The war on poverty is about Americans without money.

The poverty war is an unwinnable quagmire that has cost more that all the wars since WWII combined. It will continue long after we leave Iraq and many more will die in the process. Since we are destined to lose the war on poverty, I think we should defund it and cut and run in order to cut our losses.
