Where do you teach? What grade? How many years? Advantages and disadvantages? I will be obtaining my Assoicates Degree in Business in June, then I am thinking about pursing onto my Bachelor's degree in Business, then my master's degree in Teaching. When do you complete your internships?

Only do teaching if you really love it. In almost all cases, teachers are underpaid. It takes 30 years to get to a salary of about $70,000 and then there is a wage cap in public teaching. As a student teacher you are unpaid, and when you are first hired as a teacher in a school system you are required to take ongoing education (classes YOU have to pay for) while receiving a salary of around $30,000. This info pertains to the state of Michigan, but I'm sure it's similar across the country. Health insurance programs are getting more costly and I really wouldn't consider going into teaching unless I knew it was my calling.

I cannot imagine how you could ever get bored with teaching. I teach high school chemistry and physics, and every day is a new adventure. I have been teaching 20 years. Each year is a repeat of the same topics, but the classes have new students each year.

Getting to know the new students and the excitement on their faces when they finally make the connections between concepts makes going to work fun. I actually enjoy going to work each day. I love to teach and I love to be around teenagers. When I don't feel this excitement for my job I will find another profession.

kids of any age are anything but boring...they are always coming up with new surprises. What you might ask yourself is not "will I get bored?" but "Can I handle the surprises?"

Internships depend on the program you take. There are a million different "schools of thought" (pun intended) regarding internship, and each different school will have its own options. You need to do a little research in your area.

I have taught middle and high school in an inner city situation (the best job I ever had, but it gave me the most grey hair as well) and elementary. Most teaching positions are more about "preventative classroom management" than anything else. If you have any other questions, feel free to write me.
Good luck!

Trust me, teaching is alot of things, but boring is not one of them. I am in the midwest and teacher middle school. I have been doing it for about three years. If you have read anything on this site, you will recognize that teaching is far from boring. Children keep you on your toes. When teaching, unlike in other jobs, you are on as soon as you get there. There is no down time at all. You walk in through the front door in the morning and the kids are there to greet you. When you get to your classroom in the morning, they are there asking you questions. When they come in at 8 or 9 am they are full of energy and ready to challenge you. You literally do not stop moving at full throttle until the kids are dismissed at the end of the day. Then you can actually do all of your administrative work and grading. (YAY!!!)

Advantages:(Teachers all over the world will hate me for this one.) Vacation time and, depending on the individual, the intrinsic reward of knowing that you have helped another person.

Disadvantages: Low pay, little appreciation and respect for your profession, no immediate results (You have to wait for a while before you see those intrinsic rewards come to fruition.), long hours, too many tedioius tasks, you have to teach to the test, insane stress levels (ask a teacher about his or her health...bad stomach? heart palpitations? migranes?)....

The fact of the matter is, teaching is difficult. It is harder than you will ever imagine. I recommend that you tutor and volunteer in a school before you make your decision. The turn over rate from teachers is awful simply because people have one idea of what they think it is (showing up and playing with kids everyday and getting alot of vacation time), but it is really a stressful job.

If you are interested, research the education/certification programs in your area and ask questions.

Good Luck.

Can't give you info. about obtaining qualifications, as I'm Australian born, and the system is different. what I can tell you is that you will NEVER be bored! Frustrated, annoyed, confused, confronted, uncertain... yes, but never bored. The decision to teach must come from your heart and love of children. It's hard, demanding work, but for the dedicated, the most rewarding experience you can have. A simple comment from a child can turn a nightmare day into a heartwarming experience to be treasured. My great memories will stay with me forever.

I teach fourth grade and no day is ever boring. I think teaching is one of the least boring jobs out there. Every day is different with new ideas, problems, and most importantly the students learning something new. Also, teaching is what you make of it. Every day I walk in the classroom ready to have fun and learn and that is what we do. I recommend reading Ron Clark's "The Essential 55"

The kids won't let you get bored! You might get frustrated with all the administrative stuff though, so only do it if you really love working with kids. Try subbing in a local school while going to school. That will give you a taste of the classroom and you'll make some extra cash! Good luck!

If you are a person who likes working with young minds then you will do great and as long as you have it in you then the world needs you but when you feel you are done then you can retire and carry on a different career. Its like actors and musicians and athletes do. They get tired of what they are doing and they move on to something new. If you really feel that its what you want then do it. I have my days when I dont feel like being there but thats because I failed to plan accordingly. Every other day though the day just whizzes by because we have so much fun! I hope everything works out for you.

You don't have to teach forever, quit when you get bored and follow another path.
