Yes,...I know the Soviet Union was communist not socialist,...but anyway I think all of the capitalists say that you earn everything you get,...but someone can work 10x as hard as an American businessman and make just a few cents a day. Capitalists won't admit that you have a serious advantage by simply being born in the United States of America. You do not earn all of what you get....simply put.

There's a really good book called "A People's History of the US 1492- present" by Howard Zinn, and it's fantastic. Don't let anyone bully you while you are trying educate yourself!

EDIT- I'm not saying turn communist, it's just that one of the freedoms we have here in this country is learning about other societies and how they work...there is some good in there, and some bad, like in all societies

No, I do not miss it. And socialism really isn't all that great.
I've been living in Germany the last two years, and even though there are benefits to being German (which I'm not, I'm American), I would much rather be living in the States.
Sure, Germans have free health care. Sounds like a dream, right? Well...
Let's see:
The sales tax (which we call VAT, for value-added tax) is about 18%.
The minimum wage is the same it is in my home state, Washington...approximately.
Gas here costs around $7 a gallon (that's CHEAP, actually. In some areas it's more like $8.).
The roads are horribly bumpy. Oh, and there are NO lights on the autobahn. And most streets are unlit, too.
The internet doesn't seem to be as fast here as it was back in the States, but it sure does cost more. We're paying nearly $100 a month, whereas in the States we paid half that.
Oh, and cable TV? Forget about it. Basic cable alone costs at least twenty dollars more than it did back in the States.
Some areas of Germany (such as what used to be East Germany) are still quite poor, though not as poor as some of the Eastern European countries that are still reeling from communism (like Poland, for example, which is one of the poorest places I've ever seen).
I could go on, but...these are just some of the things I've noticed since I've been here.
I'll finish this with one last thing:
I had many Russian friends in high school, and they all told me the same thing about communism and socialism: It only seems great to outsiders. It's really not. Capitalism may not be perfect, but it's still better than communism and socialism.

They were not a real communist society. a real communist society would haven't any administration, when you consider that each and every man or woman basically provides and takes in protecting with their choose. No administration will be required when you consider that a real communist society assumes that humanity is made from beneficiant, non-egocentric those who're keen to struggle through in my opinion for the coolest thing about the gang. really, the Soviet Union became an oligarchical police state imposing a socialistic economic coverage.

No one is arguing that everyone begins equally, but there is a flaw in your reasoning about working "10x as hard". That is, the market rewards VALUE. Under a capitalist system, each party in the marketplace is compensated for the value delivered in the marketplace. The auto mechanic may not work as "hard" as the ditch digger who labors non-stop for hours on end, but the product delivered by the mechanic is worth more to society and is therefore, given greater compensation.

The capitalist provides capital to productive endeavors. This is the ONLY thing that EVER creates jobs. He will not do so unless he can get an adequate return on his investment, so, inevitably he EARNS that return for the benefit created in the marketplace.

The notion that businessmen do not "work hard" is an all to frequently repeated canard pronounced by those who really lack an understanding of what such people do.

Haha...I won't pile on with the rest of these people but yeah, the USSR was a very, very corrupt and totalitarian nation.

Now, about your capitalism take could be on to something. I think the free market is a great thing but I do recognize that there are many people on the top of the system trying to abuse it. This is demonstrated clearly when you look at things like outsourcing and the use of illegal immigrants in this country. A CEO makes a decision to outsource accounting jobs to India for his firm. He earns a stock bonus of 200 million for ONE FISCAL YEAR just from making that decision. Does that sound like something to be proud of?? I eventually see an uprising against the new "global" market. Both Left and Right sides are beginning to realize that the capitalistic does have its negatives. "The only problem with capitalism is capitalist."

They called being in the Soviet Union "behind the iron curtain" for a reason. Those were bad times with the Cold War and the Nuclear Arms Race. The threat of Nuclear war hung over the world like a demon. No, can't say I miss the Soviet Union..or the 80's for that matter.

The reason you long for the soviet union is you were born in 89. If you were old enough to remember them, you would not miss them.

We are a middle-class family. Why? Because we work our asses off. We do well because we put forth a lot of effort. Will we ever be rich? Doubtful - but so what?

I work 2 jobs and help my husband run his 2 businesses. He works full-time PLUS runs 2 businesses. Hell, the poor guy worked 18 hours non-stop yesterday. Why on earth should people like us help some loser who's too lazy to get of his or her ***? ANYONE can make it here. Go watch "Pursuit of Happyness" and tell me that no one can make it in this country.

Think socialism rocks? I've heard Venezuela is a lovely place....
