Why not? If he's got what it takes, what difference does his skin color make? Now if your q was: Are Americans open minded & unbiased enough? Truthfully, I don't know.

Nope, the world and America itself is not ready for an African American President. There is still a sizable minority who will vote for an "average" White candidate before they would vote for ANY Black candidate. The vetting process known as the Presidential primary season also excludes most minority candidates by making sure power stays in the hands of the status quo. It's not so much a racist thing as it is a thing about the status quo. Both Democrats and Republicans are guilty of it. They want to select people who won't change the system THAT much. Look at the Democrats...they've been pretty nominating from the same gene pool literally for many offices. Gore was the son of Senator, I believe. There's the Kennedys, etc. The Republicans also tend to sponsor nepotism (obviously with the Bushes but there are other examples).
How would an African American President be different? Not sure, it would depend on the person. Maybe the President could parlay the novelty of it into some political advances but I'm not sure. The pressure on him/her would be tremondous from both sides of the political spectrum. He/She would NOT have the chance for slip-ups or learning on the job. A Black President would HAVE to be a GREAT President since America would second guess them all the way.

I would have no problems voting for a minority president of any kind. whether it be female, black, hispanic, etc. If i thought they would do the best job. but that's not the question, is it? I do think the world is ready for a minority president. Do i think it will happen in the near future? No. Our society as a whole is still too racist and sexist. Remember when Colin Powell was shot at? I don't blame minorities for not running. And if they do, well they've definitely got to have brass in their pants.
oh and as for how it would be different, we would have a different perspective on old and new issues. We would have a different type of problem solver. Someone looking at issues from the minorities or underdog side of things. this would be very different from the white protestant male outlook we've endured for years, i'm sure.

It is against the law. An African American is an African who come to America. What you means is a president of African decent.
The democratic party will never support a black candidate but they Republicans will.
The Democratic party will turn every black person in this country against a black republican candidate so he would be an outcast. Even though most blacks vote for the democratic party we are Conservative. We hold the same values as Republican for family values, the death penalty, education etc. Very few black people in this country will tell that there is no god.
A black canidate would be good for this country.

race doesn't really matter. how we are perceived does mater- even after the civil rights era there is still racial seperation. a black president would really show that we've overcome our ignorant past. it might help with foriegn relations with other countries who still view us as 'white ruling'
people might trust the gov more since it will be more diverse, mistrust of a government hurts the whole nation in one way ro another
it would stir up a lot of disagreemnt with white supremency groups-not that they're in agreement with the majority of the natino now, it would get worse.
this could help us with some of our bad press. although we started modern democracy, we are the only deocratic country to have only 2 major parties and the same kind of presidents (white males). thats a bit sad.

I think the world will cease to exist...
Well, since I am an "African American", I think that many people don't care what color the president is. With the exception of Mississippi and Tennessee.

Yes. Color would make no difference in how she/he runs the government. If you are referring to Barack Obama, I think he is very capable, intelligent and charismatic. His only drawback may be lack of experience, although that can be overcome. I think the world is ready, the question is, Is the United States ready?

There is no place for the hyphen in our citizenship... We are a nation, not a hodge-podge of foreign nationalities. We are a people, and not a polyglot boarding house.
