They wanted to make it a typical large-scale war/romance movie with only subtle hints of Homer.

Not to say the movie was bad, since I thought that the message about immortality was solid.

I really enjoyed Troy(even though Helen jumped off the walls and Paris got butchered). It was much better than Alexander. What I didn't like about Troy was I really didn't like Helen. If I were Hectors wife I would have thrown her off the wall the minute Achilles killed him. Troy made all those years of listening to my English teacher recite The Iliad and The Odyssey seem worth it.

why do people think so bad of that movie?
its based on a classic book "The Illiad"
so its built around a story that may or may not be truth.

as for charectors you cant really put that down either.

I think it was very well done for such a large scale story.

I think you've got it backwards. Troy was brilliantly written and had some incredible supporting roles as well as an amazing score. Brad Pitt, in my opinion, derailed it. Sure, he's beautiful and runs like a gazelle, but Achilles, he ain't.

large scale films focused on and written around jaded cliche'd good looking millionaire "movie stars" are fated to bring the end of Hollywood and the star system about very quickly - i am counting on it .

Then real movies will begin to be made that will really startle us out of our seats and throw petrol on our hearts
