I completely agree with you. There is an imaginary "language barrier" that stops people from listening to a song in a language that is not theirs. And i really find it too bad. Personally, i think it's beautiful to just listen... even if you don't understand the words... it's the whole idea of going somewhere you don't know...
I live in France, and i listen to music:
- in french (Sinik, 113, Gérald de Palmas, K-Maro)
- in english (Sting, AAF, 12 Stones, Counting Crows, H.I.M)
- in german (die Fantastichen Vier, Bushido, Eko Fresh, Fettes Brot)
- in arabic (Nancy Ajram, Rami Ayash, Haifa Wehbe, Hani Shaker)
- then, a bit of spanish and italian; but not that much.
But then again, there's also, in my opinion, another barrier, which stops people from listening to a type of music that is not theirs (for example, some metal-heads will never listen to pop)

Over 10% of Americans are Hispanic, they listen to Latino music all the time. Other immigrants also listen to "foreign language" music.

I listen to German music because I'm currently living in Germany. But it doesn't bother me listening to music in other languages. I like to try and understand the feeling of the music without understanding the actual words.

Sometimes I do. Personally, one of my favorite Police tunes is "J'aurais Toujours Faim de Toi" (I hope I spelled that right) - and I will crank it and sing along in traffic, while people right/left of me have NO CLUE what I'm playing.
