I think there are certain things that are not appropriate for children, but I am opposed to government censorship of music. I think it's the parent's job to censor for their children, and determine when they are old enough to be exposed to various topics and language. It's the parent's job to be nosy and involved enough to find out if the kid is getting something from his or her friends that doesnt comply with house rules. And it is the parent's job to determine which battles to pick and which to let go.
Bottom line- It comes down to nurture and parental censorship.

It depends of what music. Hip Hop, Rap and Reggaeton are absolutely a negative influence.

it's not the music it is as much as people are stupid. i mean, i understand why people would say "angry music" makes people violent but not really, i listen to metal, some songs are about brutally murdering people, some are burning churches, some are about daisies and flowers... i'm not violent nor do i think about murder or burning churches. it really depends on how stupid the listener is. i think "gangster rap" is much more of a bad influence but only cuz it doesnt really incorporate much music... at all.... so it becomes really about how cool the singer is and what he's saying.

YES, I DO BELIEVE MUSIC IS A NEGATIVE INFLUENCE ON TODAY'S YOUTH. IN PARTICULAR, GANGSTER RAP. THAT KIND OF MUSIC IS VERY APPEALING TO KIDS, LIKE DANCE MUSIC HAS ALWAYS BEEN, ONLY NOW THE LANGUAGE USED AND THE SUBJECTS COVERED ARE APALLING. WHAT KIND OF A BARBARIAN LISTENS TO THAT? WHO WOULD LET A KID LISTEN TO THAT? IT'S WROND TO USE FOUL LANGUAGE AND RACIAL EPITHETS -EVER- AND IT'S WRONG TO LET KIDS HEAR THEM IN THEIR MUSIC. AND THEN THERE'S ALL THAT TALK OF BITCHES AND DRUG USE AND THUG LIFE. AS IF THAT'S SOMETHING TO ASPIRE TO!

Music is and always has been a scapegoat for people who are simply bad parents.
Music also reflects our society, for better or worse. It's up to the parents to steer their children in the direction they want them to go in.

it does depend on the music. it depends on the lyrics. you can't understand the lyrics, but your brain does. i know some music i listen to makes me get pissed off easier. it used to make my life hell. but i love it so much i can't stop listening to it. so i learned to control my anger and i can deal with it in different ways.
