Thailand and countries like it that have a big sex trade business also have a HUGE rate of HIV, and it is the sex trade that's fueling
this (no joke, look at this).
http://www.thailandguru.com/health-hiv.html
"It has been estimated that the heterosexual HIV transmission rate in Thailand is FIFTY-FOLD higher than that observed in USA and Europe." The strain of HIV that is most prevalent in Thailand (sub-type E) is transmissable through heterosexual sex and is MUCH easier to "catch" (by men) than other strains. For anyone who thinks otherwise, they should really look at this site, not knowing the truth is not just ignorance, it's deadly.
And prostitution isn't legal in Thailand. It hasn't been since 1960,
although it's basically "tolerated." Also, a lot of these women are NOT willing participants, they are basically slaves, sold to brothels at a very young age (often as young as nine) because their parents were incredibly poor or addicted to drugs (60% of Thai prostitutes are under the age of 18). Many are also kidnapped from neighboring countries like China and Burma in the "human trafficking" trade and sold as prostitutes against their will. These women (and girls) cannot leave, are paid very little (if at all) and are beaten and mistreated to keep them complacent. There was a big story about this on "Dateline" a few years ago.
If you really think prostitution in these places is a "win/win" for everyone involved, pleas look at this website, and especially scroll down to "Cases" where it describes what has happened to real girls, many children, who are kidnapped, held against their will, and basically raped repeatedly by "customers" (how can they give consent if they are being held prisoner in the first place?) over many years.
http://www.uri.edu/artsci/wms/hughes/thailand.htm
Again, these are real stories of real girls sold into prostitution and treated as prisoners and slaves. Is it wrong? To participate in an institution where these women's basic human rights are violated, and slavery is promoted? I guess that's up to you, but I would say it is VERY wrong. But please educate yourself on the risk of HIV infection and the violation of human rights these women are subjected to before forming an opinion.
If men want to do this, they should go to places in Europe where the prostitutes ARE protected by the law and treated fairly.

If a man is married - than it is wrong for him to sleep with anyone else, regardless of whether it is with a prostitute in another country or not.
I think the view I have is that a man is a little bit desperate if he has to travel to another country just to get laid. If he really likes asian chicks, he can get them in his own country too.
These prostitutes in thailand are generally women who have no choice but to become prostitutes. Many are 'recruited' as children. For men to travel there in great numbers for sex, it is exploiting these women and children even more - so, yes, it is wrong.

I'm not sure what the real solution would be, but I feel that continuing to do this perpetuates the situation the women are in over there. I know they get paid, are willing participants, and most are in desperate need of the money, but they do this because there is often no other option for them, and it's not something they would ever chose to do otherwise. Would you be content to sleep with someone who felt she had to because she had no other choice? Shouldn't sex be at least a little bit about mutual attraction?

I'm not so sure 'MILLIONS' of men do this, but yes...how stupid can a man be? There are Asian women here, and in most every country. Why go over sea's to catch an STD when you can do it at home?
And...any married man who has sex with someone else, is cheating and committing adultery. Yes, it matters. I'm betting if a married man's wife did the same thing, it would sure as heck matter to HIM!

of route that's incorrect. that's treating human beings like French wine: you bypass to devour the product and then you eliminate it. sex isn't wine--it really is a sacred, intimate bond between guy and spouse. Prostitution is a right away offense to that theory. it would not be counted once you're married or unmarried--that's immoral both way. regardless of the indisputable fact that that's even worse for a married guy because that's adultery.

My direct answer would be it is morally wrong because the means does not justified the end. It you take sex as a recreation and a commodity because you paid for it, even then you are responsible of your actions because sex means "Life" and Life entails responsibility. There are no exceptions whether the man is single or married because the issue of universal respect for the human person is being violated.

Wrong? In what way? If he's not married (or is married to somebody that screws around on him) and that's how he wants to spend his dough, then what's it to ya?
I don't know about Thailand, but in countries where it's tightly regulated (like Costa Rica), your chances of picking up HIV are quite a bit less than they are if you sleep around with ever bar s*lut you can find in the USA. And female to male transmission is still fairly rare, anyway, and when in doubt, wear a rubber.
Men pay for it no matter how they get it. The people you mentioned just figure they are getting the most for their money and effort. Maybe it's not for you or some of these other phony-baloney moralizers around here, but that don't make them wrong.

you dont have it completely right.....many men go to thailand for sex, because the redlight districts are legal there, but a lot of them go there to have sex with child prostitutes, which is illegal, but not enforced very much. pretty sad, too, that police will just look the other way.

As long as he's not picking up some disease to pass around to any other sex partners, I don't see an issue with a single guy going anywhere he wants for sex.
If a married or "attached" guy does it, it's cheating. Just as if he'd hooked up with a woman who wasn't a prostitute.
