Before the new stadium we had Tiger Stadium, now we have Comerica park. It would be great if they just followed tradition and called it Tiger Stadium as well but sponsor money does allow them to add a player they might not sign without the extra money so I guess i'd rather have the better player than the original name.Sadly money dictates far too much in the sports world.

My team does not have a sponsored stadium name and I love it. But the naming rights are up in a couple of years so I hope that someone votes to keep it the same. Jacobs Field is one of the few left of its kind and I would hate to see the name go. Naming it after the owner of the team is classic as is naming it after the team, but a company is just stupid.

I too do not like stadiums named after corporate sponsors. There use to be a time when stadiums had traditional names. Names like Ebbets Field, Tiger Stadium, Shibe Park. Today, you have names like Comerica Park, Tropicana Field, and Safeco Field. I think that stadiums should go back to traditional original names because I do not believe that corporations and stadium names do not go together.

For Seattle, there would only be one choice:
Edgar Martinez Field.
'Nuff said.
I like all the hometown hero answers. Good existing names for stadia include William A. Shea Stadium (Mets, named for the man who brought NL baseball back to New York), Camden Yards (Baltimore) and Fenway Park (Boston). When Candlestick Park became 3Com Stadium it was a sad day. Now of course they have the new stadium in San Francisco. Alas, corporate sponsorship is a done deal.

Well, we kicked the idea around for calling the Football Team field "The Pit" because the team colors are equal to fire and brimstone. (Black and Red) (White and Red away) Looked darn good. Even had the music picked out for what to play. However, it looks like we'll be sticking with a local park and as a part of community service we'll be cleaning the place up. The Punishers do a lot of community service. Which was horrible on practice days, did a lot of work on little food or water. Made it worth it when you saw the looks on kids faces.

The Rangers sold their stadium naming rights to Ameriquest like two years ago but I liked The Ballpark in Arlington better than Ameriquest Field even if it was rather generic. Guess I'll have to wait till those 30 some years are over.

And underneath that put lets play 2

i agree, unfortunately, the corporate sponsored names arent going anywhere because of all the teams need money to spend on players and these companies are paying them money to name their stadium after load-of-crap.com or whatever. to answer your question, i would not change the name of my favorite team's stadium (oriole park at camden yards) because first of all, it has the team's name in the name of the stadium, so its not like youre going to get confused of who plays there, and because it sounds like the kind of place that you could spend an afternoon and take in a ball game (maybe its the words "yards" and "park", you know, like they used to back in the days of babe ruth and ted williams, before all this steroids barry bonds stuff. if i had my own stadium, i would let the fans decide, because i know the fans wouldnt choose to name it ebay stadium or whatever
