Its a definite possibility. But I honestly feel that mankind will destroy itself long before a huge natural catastrophic disaster will.

There is a slight possibility that it could happen because On April 13, 2029, asteroid 2004 MN4 will fly past Earth only 18,600 miles (30,000 km) above the ground. For comparison, geosynchronous satellites orbit at 22,300 miles (36,000 km). "At closest approach, the asteroid will shine like a 3rd magnitude star, visible to the unaided eye from Africa, Europe and Asia--even through city lights," But there are thousands of asteroids that come in contact with the Earth every year that we humans don't notice. But then again, many people think a asteroid killed off the dinosaurs.

No, the asteroids have had millions of years to colide with each other and knock themselves out of orbit. The only asteroids left wandering around near space are small ones (one went through the roof and upper floors of a house in, I think New Jersey, about 2 weeks ago), none big enough to destroy the earth. Remember a few years ago, NASA took pictures of a comet crashing into Jupiter. Beyond the orbit of Pluto is a section of space containing lots of comets and orbiting rocks (some big enough for them to be considered new planets). That section could contain a comet that orbits the sun every billion years or so and was so far out as to be undetected by us. It could be on its way back into our section of space. Maybe something to worry about in a few hundred years.

Maybe no, if the asteroid is too small. it won't, it turn into smittereens on the earth but the earth was in still intact, that earth has a lot of layers inside which cover the core like a protection, unless it was a big asteroid. If it is so, it may happen in next hundred years and turn it into desert of hell, then ice-age came next, then later it melt and turn nature alive, then animals and human.

Not likely, 1 in 10 million chance an asteriod will hit Earth and end human existence.
