Do colleges generally just look at a student's GPA or also their grades in highschool?

In particular...what does the University of Illinois-Chicago and Loyola University in chicago look at?

They usually look at GPA first. If a school requires/has an average GPA of 3.5 and you only have a 3.0, you may not be what that school is looking for. However, if you do meet the general requirement, they may look at your grades to see what kind of a student you generally are. What subjects you do well in, what subjects you don't.

Many schools have limited space; so schools look at grades when they are trying to decide between two students, for example.

Your GPA is generally decided by your grades in high school, it's like the average, so i'm not sure what you mean. . .
But they also look at SAT scores and extra curricular activites. You can go on collegeboard.com and type in the name of the college you're looking for and it'll tell you.

your GPA is not going to be their deciding factor. Think about it this way....think about how many people are applying to one college who have 4.0s. The colleges don't care, cause they have no way of differentiating between them. My point being....extracurriculars are key. The more active you are in various activities, the more you'll stand out. Grades don't do anything anymore....too many people excell in their school work.

Well, your GPA is what it is because of your grades.

Collegeboard can give you information on how heavily they weight stuff in their admissions process.
