Ok, when horror movies are "based on a true story", it usually means next to nothing. Maybe less than nothing, if that were possible.

The actor who played leather face in the original is alive and well. His name is Gunnar Hanson. The man that its based on is named Ed Gein, he died in an institution back in the 80's.
