Actually, I've just finished up a project similar to this. In a way, yes it does. Due to conditioning, our mind is always set so that colors should taste like its correspondent (IE brown pudding should always taste like chocolate). Because of this, blue is known to get rid of hunger, as nothing in our world of food is truly blue. In short, just changing the color of a product could change the perception of flavor (not taste but i'm not going to get into that).

One example is the famous green ketchup. Heinz used this knowledge to release their green ketchup (Hey kids! Now that burger doesn't remind you of a bloody cow!) back in 2000. Kids were going absolutly nuts for this new product, but parents turned their nose. Both the kids AND adults knew that it was ketchup with a bit of food coloring but both still differed in opinion.

So, yes, If you change the color to a popular color (or one that affects a specific market, like what Heinz did), it will affect the preference of lifesavers. I mean, don't you always pick out the purple ones? I know I do :)

Good luck

I think there was a study done some time ago that found yellow, orange and red hues to invoke hunger in humans. I'm sure if you dig around you can find it.

Personally, I like red lifesavers the best. During the 80s, pretty much every kind of candy was absolutely disgusting except for cherry-flavored things. A type of operant conditioning, you might say, regardless of whether it was intentional or not.

no. To prove that, dump lifesavers ina bag. No peeking. Pick one and see what it tase like. Next pick one of the same color and try it does it taste different--no.Your brain can fool you into anything, but if it doesn't know what color it has no expectations and will rely only on results, not expextations.
