i am going to induce labour on 21st of january.
i like to start excersising right after that. can i? or should i wait a bit for my body to rest?

Check with you ob/gyn. After my delivery which was pretty normal I started out with walking, stretching and some yoga until about six weeks when I was able to go back to my full, gonzo routine. I found a class that was call baby massage and excercise and they had a great routine for newborns that helped with both mom and baby to bond and to feel better.

Congratulations on your impending birth, you must be very excited. Giving birth is very emotional and will take alot of your energy, so you will want to rest for a few weeks anyway to recover, normally 6-8 weeks is a good recovery time, this is for your body to start repairing itself, as when you breastfeed your uterus contracts and stats loosing weight slowly, you will be given a few exercises to do while in hospital and after that will straighten your abdominal muscles, these are light but necessary exercises. After the birth you should be more worried about bonding with your baby before worrying about getting back into shape, you will need to adjust to life with a baby and a new routine, get your routine into place before putting extra strain on your body by exercise. Start small and gradually work your way up. Your body has been through alot over the past 9 months.

Enjoy your new addition as they grow so quickly during the first few months changing everyday, go at your pace and make sure you have enough energy to do everything else you need to do. Don't wear yourself out to soon, you will regret it. You have done a wonderful job in creating this beautiful little baby have a rest then start retraining your body. A few weeks will do the world of good for you. Stay calm time will fly by once bub is here. Good luck. Enjoy every little thing as this time is priceless and can not be replaced.

I do not think that there is anything wrong with some slow walking after giving birth. I mean you shouldn't push yourself. If you feel that you have to be active, then you can walk of course. That's always excellent exercise. Two things you have to consider though:

If you plan on breastfeeding, you will be burning a lot of calories doing that anyway. I slightly cut calories but was breastfeeding so the weight just went flying off. So if you're worried about your weight, remember that. However, if you are breastfeeding, for heavens sake, don't eat only salads after giving birth because it will affect your milk. You have to eat a healthy, balanced diet and believe me, even doing that you will lose weight if you are breastfeeding.

The second thing was when I was pregnant, the midwife said that if you rush exercise after giving birth, the muscles in your stomach won't spring back completely and you'll end up with a little pooch that you can't doing anything about. It's in your best interests to keep it slow so everything springs back to where it's supposed to go.

The bottom line though is that you are going to be tired after all that, believe me. I was induced and when my baby came out, he left a nice big gash which took ages to heal. Plus he was breastfeeding so I couldn't get up for the next two weeks, even if I had wanted to, because I had a little boy attached. Just take it easy, bask in the moment, because it goes by so fast. Pretty soon that little newborn will be going through his terrible twos (like mine is) and you'll want all the memories you can to remember when he was a sweet, helpless little baby.

You are not going to feel like working out right after your baby is born! I would wait till you are healed, sleeping some what normally, and your bleeding has slowed down. Doctors say wait at least 6-8 weeks anyway. What I recommend is to eat healthy right after baby is born and maybe 2 weeks later take light walks. If your bleeding increases you should stop! Start slowly. Than after you 1 month check up and doctor says everything looks good, go ahead. Plus you never know if you will end up with a c-section! And that is a longer time to heal. Good luck.

You should rest a fair amount for the first week. Otherwise your placental site will not heal as quickly, and you will continue to bleed. Normal activity around the house is OK.
Second week, start back slowly doing some walking. If you start bleeding more, cut back.
After the second week, you can start doing a few crunches to work on your abdominal tone. But only a few, and no full sit-ups. Increase very gradually. If it causes bleeding or pain, stop.
Gradually increase your activity level. At 4 weeks postpartum, some women are ready for the gym, but for many it's not until 6 weeks. The key is to get back to it slowly and gradually.
A lot depends on what your labor and delivery is like. Give yourself plenty of time to recover and enjoy your baby.

Most Dr's will tell you to wait 6 weeks if you had a normal labor and delivery. If yours ends up being a little mor complicated, or more stitches etc, your Dr will probably recommend holding off a little bit longer. I know that I started walking as soon as I got home. Nothing high paced, just enough to get out of the house and get a bit of exercise. But your body does need time to get back to normal, so try not to race it. Good luck!

You really should wait for the 6 weeks they recommend. Girl, I take it this is your first? Trust me, you will be too tired to start cranking out bench presses right away. Don't push things. Think about it. You are going to be pushing an entire human being from your body. That takes more energy than you think. With things like that, it's not like running for an hour, resting for 30 minutes and being ready to go again. Your body will need REAL recovery time! Take it easy. There will be plenty of time to get back into shape once your body is ready. CONGRATS!

you are supposed to rest for a couple of weeks after giving birth and your doctor should tell when it would be a good time based on factors about your delivery. The hospital will also give you an info booklet on good exercises to do for your tummy and other great tips.

i have two boys 11months apart so u can imagine my body was a wreck anyways after the second was born i started goin for a short walk the day we came home i suggest if u do want to start early jus take it easy for a while till evrythin settles back into place again

I had a normal delivery and I couldn't move for 6 weeks. And even if you can move doctors suggest that you shouldn't exercise until your 6 week check-up, especially do not lift heavy things!! Here is a useful website for you, hope it will help..
