Actually anything that is consumed, which includes food and drugs, can change the pH in the human body in the stomach, mouth and blood, but within the body we have buffer acids and bases, which prevent our body from becoming too acidic, basic, or neutral from what it is used to.

Food can still cause our stomach to become too acidic, which is what causes people to have heartburn or acid reflux, so we take antacids or bases to drop the acidic level in our stomach.

Hope this helps!!

Common foods that help you with alkaline forming: celery, cucumber, sea vegetables, vegetable juice, pear, apricot, avocado, peach, broccoli, bell peppers, almonds, mushrooms and yams. Well one feature in the intestines is the presence of villus which absorb the end products of digestion. These structures are made of lots of folds exposing a lot more surface area so that it can absorb nutrients and water. Folding of the small intestine increases surface area by 3.The villi folding increases surface area by 10. And then the presence of microvilli increases the surface area by 20. As a result, the surface area is increased by 600.
