The phrase is, "Never look a gift horse in the mouth." And no, I would never look a gift horse in the mouth because looking at a horse's teeth tells you how old they are. The point being that it is free, and you shouldn't care what shape it is in because you got it for free.

Can one stare a gift horse in the mouth? We can stare at it's mouth, or in(to) it's eyes. Whoever thought that up was pretty bad at grammar.
