Battement tendu is the more formal name for a simple tendu, which is sliding your straight leg on the floor until it is stretched out in a pointed position. Battement does NOT mean "beat" here.
A la seconde means the outstreched foot is pointed to the side.
A terre means "on the floor".
En face means that you are facing straight forward, not at an angle.

let's see, ok battement= a low kick with the foot pointed, both legs are straight. tendu= foot is pointed, at floor level and the leg w/ the pointed foot is straight. a la seconde= facing open to the audience. I don't know what A TERRE means, but en face is also open to the audience just in a different direction.

Basically, your stretched leg (tendu) is in a beating motion (battement) with your feet on the ground (a terre) opposite of the audience (en face). A la seconde means that your foot and your movement starts/is in the second position.

A battement is a beating action of the extended or bent leg. A la second is second position, a terre is on the ground, and en face is facing square in the front. http://www.dance.net/read.html?postid=2867515&replies=15&page=1
