L.A. havent shelled out that amount of money for Beckham purely as a player, it's for marketing purposes aswell.
Even if he breaks his leg in his first game and never plays again, he will still be an asset to the club, if not the team.

I would bet you like 74282 million dollars he is not gonna fluke. He's gonna be the best player in Galaxy that season, no question about it. Even if he isn't first rate in Europe anymore, he sure is in North America!
