Yes!

If the kicking team only touches the ball the receivers can pick it up and run it!

If the kicking team "CONTROLS" the ball before the receiving team touches it, the ball is down and belongs to the receivers!

The answer is yes...there are very few times that it happens though....it is a high risk move...I am a big Redskins fan and remember a game in the early 90's when Brian Mitchell took a punt 105 yrds after the recieving team touched the ball.

No, when a member of the kicking team touches the ball while he or it is on the ground, the play is dead and the ball is spotted where it was downed. Thats why you'll see players leaping to bat the ball out of the end zone while in the air, to knock the ball back in play, as it would be a touchback if they touched it while their feet were in the end zone or if the ball touched the ground in the endzone. Its different in college, though.

If, though, a kicking team member batted the ball out of the endzone in the air and a receiving team member managed to pick it up, he could run with it, but like a previous poster said, if the kicking team got to it first there wouldnt be much room left to run.

Ask and Storm are right...The ball is not dead until the kicking team completely stops it and has it in their possession...If they only touch it, the return team can pick it up and run it back!

What is more, if they fumble the attempt to return it and the kickers recover it, they can insist on taking the ball at the spot where the kicking team first touched it!

No. If the kicking team touches the ball before the receiving team does. The ball is downed and that is were the other team's offense starts.

Well yes they can but no one is dumb enough to because the second the kick returner gets the ball the kicking team will be all over him.

No. The ball is placed at the spot of first touching (if there's no penalty involved) and awarded to the receiving team.
