oh, sorry yes you can...
BACKUP REGISTRY FIRST BEFORE DOING THIS!!! (See bottom of post to see how to do this)

Removing the BIN

XP offers a very clean desktop except for this one icom RB
Ypu cannot remove it by just deleting it or through any menu options
In the registry editor goto and delete this data

HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION
\EXPLORE\DESKTOP\NAMESPACE{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

restatr your computer and recycle bi will no longer be on your desk

instead of deleting a forementioned code you can alternatively change this code ie
645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E to 1 at

HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION
\EXPLORE\HIDEDESKTOPICONS\NEWSTARTPANEL.

YOU HAVE JUST DELETED THE ICON TO DELETE FILE FROM RECYCLE BIN ie TO EMPTY IT GO TO C:\RECYCLED\AND DELETE THE FILES
THANK YOU

BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN EDITING THE REGISTRY NOT TO DELETE THE WRONG THING AND MAKE A BACKUP
1 open registry (goto start run type regedit then hit enter)
2 go to file
3 export
4 at the bottom select ALL
5 chose a place to save a backup to and a file name then hit enter

No you can't. the Recycle Bin is part of the Windows operating system and is protected. No commands or procedures are available that allow you to delete Recycle Bin itself. You can only delete its contents by emptying the Recycle Bin.

However, you can make the Recycle Bin disappear from the Desktop. But this doesn't mean that the Recycle Bin itself is deleted. It just won't show on the Desktop, but the folder still exist, and you can still see it by opening a Windows Explorer window.

you should have an icon on your desktop. Just right click it and you will see a delete function. Also another way to do it. Go to mycomputer. Go to your C drive, right click and go to properties. You will see a box that says Disk Cleanup. Hit that box, it might take awhile. It will delete your recycle bin and other things that need deleting. You can move your recycle bin, but there is no delete function.

Its not possible to delete the Recycle Bin. You can move it off your desktop, but thats it.

Willy clearly has no idea what he's talking about. The Recycle Bin is not "deleted', just removed from the registry. Thats 100% DIFFERENT.

You cannot delete the Recycle bin how ever you can empty it, by Right Clicking>Empty Recycle Bin and Click YES when it asks you if your sure that you want to delete it.

To remove it from your desktpop you would right click anywhere on the desktop, Properties>Customize and take the Trash can out of the table, by rightclicking and click remove.

Hope that helps.

I wouldn't delete the recycling bin why do you think microsoft put it on their when they created windows. If you delete the recycle bin what are you going to do when you delete a file and need to get it back. In fact i don't even think that it is possible.

If you made a copy then delete the copy not the original. Try right clicking it and deleting it that way. If not try goign into your desktop folder to delete it.

It's part of the operating system. It would be very, very unwise of you to attempt to tweak it.
