Think about this:
1) How do you usually study (or not study)?
2) What kind of learner are you?
-visual (you remember what you see, can memorize notes well)
-auditory (you remember what you see, can remember lectures, etc.)
-kinesthetic (you remember what you do --hands-on activities)

My guess is that you're not visual (or not completely). Your friend can just take the notes and listen and remember. She performs great. But you may not be able to remember/apply the knowlege as easily as she can.

I performed well in school--not because I was the smart one--but because I was determined to study the way I needed to.

Try this--pick up your notes and pace the room holding them in your hands. (kinesthetic)

Or... make color-coded note cards. Divide the colors by different concepts you have to learn. (visual) Quiz yourself out loud. (auditory)

Make up actions or little songs to remember the concepts. (kinesthetic and auditory)

My personal favorite: Get a whiteboard from an office supply store, and use it to write/draw what you need to remember. (visual and kinesthetic)

How do you impress your parents? Show them HOW you are studying. They should be impressed that you're taking the time to find out how you learn best and apply that knowledge.

Once you find what works for you, it will show. I teach high school English now, and I have yet to find a student who can't improve once they find how they learn.

Just remember: you have to be invested and look for improvement in you. Be happy for your friend and her intelligence, but work hard to show your own intelligence to your parents and to yourself!

It boils down how much you remember in the tests.Do your parents help you revise? My daughter and her friend are both bright and usually my daughter gets a half mark higher than her friend for maths..I help my daughter to revise.Parental support is helpful for kids who want to achieve .Ask your parents to help you revise by asking questions. My daughters friends has no help.Ask your parents for help if they want you to study and be successful. That is what they are there for.
