It's a good idea to replace the the aerial that comes with it for a high quality indoor digital aerial. Most of the good ones also come with a signal booster, but check before you buy it.
You should also check where the signal is coming from, so you can position the aerial for optimal reception. The Freeview website should have details of the transmitters in your area.

Are you able to put an an aerial outside?
Depending how far away you live from the transmitter you might be able to get a signal from an indoor active antenna. try maplins for one of these
