Do you think this would be a good idea, or do you think it would be abused .Because you would have to weigh both sides of the argument. The state of the economy, and the needs of the people. should there be different levels of minimum wage for different age groups ?

i think minimum wage is a bad idea to begin with.all it does is force employers to pay the people who dont deserve it more money.if you were worth 10.50 an hour your boss would pay you 10.50 an hour.now noone can afford to pay the guy that busts his *** all day long what he is worth because jo shmo is eating up that extra 3 dollars an hour.

There is no reason to have a federal minimum wage or any independent body to review it. Every state has the ability to set its own minimum wage. Most states have one that is higher than the current federal minimum wage.

1$ in New York does not buy as much as it does in Kansas. Most major companies have a scale of pay depending on where you live. We already have such a system for determining a minimum wage and the Democrats want to do away with it.

It is kinda like that now as states can choose a greater minimum wage. Businesses find ways around it now, so they would find ways around it if it is changed. My first job was for a 1.80 an hour in 1992 when the min wage was more than twice that. Waitresses are often given lower salaries because they ideally make up for it in tips. Of course they lie about the tips so that they can get full min. pay. I've gotten to the point that I won't get out of bed for less than ten an hour unless it is for an education. All Americans should do this as a commoners strike to let the cheapies that run businesses know that we won't take it anymore. Sadly, most people are begging for 7.00 an hour Walmart jobs, so a strike will never happen.

This is a super question! Unfortunately those who are paying the wages want no part of the process.

I believe it is incumbent upon the federal government to mandate a minimum wage that will provide a standard of living that is above the poverty line. If people can earn more through social assistance programs than by working, why work?

Perhaps this mandate needs to be married with a skills training program to ensure that employers are not duped in hiring unskilled or unqualified individuals. The minimum requirement should be basic mathematics as well as the ability to speak and write English.

I look forward to hearing what others think.

The only ones against a min wage are those looking to pay as little as they can get away with and happy to see employees starving and living in the streets as what do they need a house or life for...

Funny how they would kick up a fuss if had to live on the same money.

The min wage should be tagged onto house prices ie if a mortage is a 3 times a salery, the min wage should be close to that.

The ecomomy is how well those at the bottom do not those on the top.

Also those against the min wage are the same who dont want to be made to provide safe environments, the same who let people be poisioned by asbestos, the same who cut corners causing accidents killing thousands, the same who hurt and exploit others and would want salvour broaght back...

And as for employers could not get the staff bollocks... not enough jobs ...

Also get pay they desrve... give over if everyone studied hard and put in the effort to get a top degree then its office politics that desides who gets paid. And many who worked had get fa all

Yes I think so, but let's be fair and just. Lets have one setup for a maximum as well.

The most important job's in society are the ones that nobody wants to do, such as cleaning up the mess. Yet they are the worst paid and least respected. PM is one of good pay and even better perks and also handy for making a back hander, yet it is the least respected.

I like the dustman (Useful and needed), I don't like the PM (Useless and not needed).
