Last May (in 2006), I fell down the stairs and got a very bad bruise on my hip. It had some moderate swelling, and it didn't look very pretty, but the pain was bearable, and it was just in that isolated area. After a few weeks, the discoloration caused by the bruise went away, but the swelling, though it had gone down some, stayed. Now, in January, it is still slightly swollen in that spot, and sometimes I feel a mild pain there if I turn wrong in bed or something. Nothing has gotten worse or anything, so I don't see a need to have it checked out by a doctor, but I still want to know why this might have happened. Is it probably just trapped fluid or something?

I still don't see a need to see a doctor; it doesn't bother me at all, and as I said, it hasn't gotten worse in any way. If it did, I would see a doctor right away, of course. I'm just trying to satisfy my curiosity as to how this might be possible.

You say you see no need to see a doctor, I say you do need to see a doctor.
You shouldn't be having problems this long after the accident. It's not a good idea to second guess your problem, get some real advice, find the cause, and hopefully relief. Don't mess with your health!

Get some ice for 20 min on it and then try heat.
Rub oils on it, try camphor chapstick on it.
(fill an empty pepsi or dish bottle with hot water and put on pain)
