We've past 6 billion. Up 4 billion in 40 years.

What problems can we solve by limiting population growth?

There are definitely too many humans for two things:

1.  Subsistence farming, hunting and gathering, and most historical lifestyles.
2.  An agro-technology which remains dependent upon oil.

Either we're going to make nitrate fertilizer without oil and natural gas, or the problem will be solved for us.

As for the problems we can solve:

A.  Hunger.
B.  Economic migration.
C.  Urban mega-slums.
D.  Pollution of air, land and water.
E.  Economic development outpaced by population.

All of these problems were dealt with first in nations where population growth had passed the "demographic transition".  Control of population growth may be required to deal with them at all.

When I was in elementary school, there were less than half a billion on this planet ... and that was only 45-50 years ago. We are 'using up our resources' way TOO FAST, so any 'limited population growth' SHOULD stop some of that ... but it can not be 'legislated' because that's wrong, too, and much harder to 'get out of' ... each person should be 'responsible' although most are not.

No, there are mot to many people on earth. Possibly to many stupid people. There is a resource distribution problem though. One solution to that is a hegemony (no the U.S. is NOT the leader of this hegemony).

And to the second question no problems can be solved by population growth, at least none that couldn't be solved by another means. Limiting growth would ultimately cause more problems then it would solve.

Of couse there are way too many people on earth. The worlds population on average doubles every 40 years. With 6 billion alive today, a baby being born now, by the time he or she reaches age 80 will live in a world of 24 billion. Tell me how the world can support that many people. And please don`t tell me God will provide.

No, not too many humans, too little land because everything is cut down to build mall or other stuff- also not enough food- so when you think about it, our economy can't supply that many.
